This month saw a lot of new faces joining us and some excellent bowling from both our Adult and Junior bowlers competing in the May Legend of the Month tournament.

Unfortunately both our top seeds after qualifying in the Adults and Juniors, Joan Muir and Shayla Teale, were defeated in the Grand Final.

A big thank you and special congratulations to Joan Muir who was our oldest competitor in this event.  She did exceptionally well to get through the six games and will no doubt be feeling muscles that she didn't know existed! (Take one hot bath with lots of Epsom salts).  You are a true legend in our eyes - Well Done.

Next month (29th June) sees the return of our Bumper Bowlers for their monthly Legend of the Month event, along with our Adult Division. 

Remember, all bowlers who have won a Legend of The Week are eligible to compete in our monthly events.

2008 Cairns Junior Tenpin Bowling Association Championships

The event was well supported over two weekends and saw many bowlers achieving their personal best throughout the event.

Special thanks to the wonderful members of the committee who ran the event this year.  They did a superb job and on behalf of Go Bowling Cairns and all the Juniors and Bumpers who participated in this years event a very big THANK YOU and we can't wait until 2009 for an even bigger and better turn out!

The final event of the championships was the Open Masters.

2008 CAIRNS OPEN & A PERFECT GAME SCORED!

70 top national bowlers and our own dual World Gold Medal Champion Sue Cassell, fought out a very tough 2008 Cairns Open this weekend at Go Bowling Cairns.

Amongst the 70 entrants, Go Bowling Cairns entered 25 of our own team bowlers to take on the big guns in town for the event. There were also 14 ladies taking on the gents!!

After a gruelling 12 games qualifying on Saturday in horrid North Queensland humidity and scorching temperatures, the Top 18 bowlers returned on Sunday to complete a 6 game bowl-off to determine the top 12 for the Match play Final later in the day.

Sunday’s weather remained unbearable but true to form the battle in the final was intense.

The highlight on Sunday was with Brisbane’s Brian Pilkington bowling the perfect 300 game to stay in the hunt with the frontrunners. For this achievement, Brian earns himself $300 and his name in history as a perfect 300 game has not been bowled at Go Bowling Cairns for many a year!

But at the end of the day it was Burdekin’s Angelo Nucifora standing up to the tough conditions and walking away with the $2000 prize cheque and 2008 Cairns Open Champion's trophy.

Locals Kevin Swinburne and Craig Whitby were also amongst the top finishers with Craig a commendable 11th and Kevin storming home to a 5th Place berth.
